ShoppedOut
Frequently asked questions
Why do some meal ingredients say "basics"?
A short, fixed list of basics most kitchens already have, such as cooking oil, salt, pepper, water and common dried spices, is left out of meal prices and the on-sale count. Tap the basics note on a meal card to see exactly which items were left out. Everything else in the recipe is priced.
Which stores does ShoppedOut compare?
Listed grocery stores within your chosen distance, including major chains and regional grocers. Available sales depend on flyers entered for those stores; we do not have every product or a live shelf-price feed.
Which provinces are covered?
ShoppedOut includes major grocery chains and cities across Canadian provinces. Coverage depends on uploaded flyers and listed stores near your postal code. Smaller communities may have fewer stores or no current deals yet.
How are prices gathered?
Our team enters weekly flyer prices, and shoppers can submit flyers for admin approval. New deals appear as those uploads are published. Expired sales are excluded from current meal pricing, while historical prices can support trends. Shoppers can report a price that looks wrong.
Is ShoppedOut free?
Yes. Building a list, comparing stores, and seeing flyer deals are free. The site is supported by ads.
How do the meal options differ?
Shop one store focuses on meals using one store's deals. Top savings compares deals across nearby stores and may require more than one stop. Meals by price offers ideas within your chosen estimated meal budget. Pick meals to create a combined shopping list grouped by store.
How accurate are the prices?
Flyer prices are entered by people and can be wrong, outdated or different at your local store. Meal totals may include labelled estimates for ingredients without a local price, and ingredient costs are not always whole-package checkout costs. Check flyer dates, your local flyer and shelf prices before shopping.
What does 'price per gram' mean?
Package sizes differ between stores, so we convert every product to a common unit (per 100 g, per 100 mL, or per item). That way a smaller package isn't mistaken for a better deal.
Do I need an account?
No. You can build a list and compare stores right away. Create a free account only if you want to save your list or retrieve it on another device.
Why do you need my postal code?
To find the stores near you. We only use it to choose which stores to compare and never share it.
How far away will it look for stores?
You choose a distance between 15 and 100 km. A larger distance includes more stores; a smaller one keeps your recommendation close to home.
Why is a store missing an item?
An item may not appear in the uploaded flyer, or we may not have a matching price. A missing price does not prove that a store doesn't carry it. Check the ingredients and any labelled estimates before choosing a meal.
Is ShoppedOut available in French?
