ShoppedOut
How ShoppedOut works
Find the best grocery store and flyer deals for the recipes you want to make. Search dinners on sale or price your own recipes, then compare your whole basket for one shop.
1. Enter your postal code
Tell us where you shop. ShoppedOut finds the grocery stores within the distance you choose, anywhere from 15 to 100 km. We use listed store locations near you; available prices depend on uploaded flyers.
2. Search meals on sale
Browse dinners and other recipes matched to current flyer sales. Choose your proteins and preferences, or search for a meal. Meals with the strongest percentage savings appear first within your filters. A meal's percent is (regular cost − sale cost) ÷ regular cost of every ingredient you buy. Ingredients that aren't on sale use estimated regular prices, and those meals are marked "est." If an ingredient has no price, we show the sale item's own discount (for example "Salmon 70% off") instead of a meal percent.
3. Price your own recipes
Already know what you want to cook? Choose Price your meals and paste a recipe link. If the link cannot be read, copy and paste the ingredients and amounts instead. Add one recipe or several meals, and mark ingredients you already have so they cost $0. Your recipes stay on this device; adding them does not require an account.
Both meal choices use your existing postal code, 15–100 km radius and selected stores. Switch between Search meals and Price your meals without entering your location again.
4. Compare your whole basket for one shop
Compare all your chosen meals together, not one standout meal's discount. Store comparisons show recipe cost, unique flyer deals, dollars saved and the savings percentage for that basket. Your own recipes are ranked by lowest recipe cost. Review the separately labelled estimated at-till bill before deciding where to shop: the lowest recipe cost does not always mean the lowest full-package bill. Meal costs use available flyer prices; ingredients without a local price may use a clearly labelled estimate from Statistics Canada averages. We do not have a live feed of every store's regular shelf prices.
5. Understand recipe cost and the at-till bill
Package sizes differ from store to store, so comparing sticker prices can mislead you. A 750 g box of cereal for $4.99 looks cheaper than a 1 kg box for $5.99, but it isn't:
- $4.99 ÷ 750 g = about $0.67 per 100 g
- $5.99 ÷ 1,000 g = about $0.60 per 100 g
ShoppedOut converts every product to a common unit (per 100 g, per 100 mL, or per item) and compares those. Estimated meal costs account for ingredient amounts. The amount you pay at checkout can differ if you need to buy whole packages, already have ingredients, or choose different products.
6. Pick meals and review your shopping list
Add meals to your week to create a combined shopping list grouped by store. Shared ingredients are counted together, so the week's savings may differ from adding each meal's savings. Flyer prices are entered by our team and approved shopper submissions, not automatically collected from stores. Only current sales count; check the displayed flyer dates, your local flyer and shelf prices before shopping.
7. Save your list (optional)
You can use ShoppedOut without an account. Create a free account only if you want to save your list and retrieve it on another device.
