The highest savings usually come from planning your meals after you see the week's deals, not before. Doing it around a single store also saves time and fuel.
The five-step weekly process
- Check the current flyers for stores within your preferred radius. Most change on Thursday.
- Pick 2–4 proteins or main ingredients that are meaningfully on sale.
- Build 4–6 dinners around those sale items.
- Fill the rest of the list with low-cost staples and produce that stores well.
- Shop at one store, the one that gives the lowest total for your whole list.
Example week
If chicken thighs and ground beef are on sale:
- Sheet pan chicken thighs with potatoes and carrots
- Spaghetti with meat sauce (make a double batch)
- Black bean quesadillas
- Leftover meat sauce over rice
- Beef tacos with sale peppers
Why one store usually wins
Driving between several stores costs fuel and time, and every extra trip adds impulse buys. A single well-chosen store usually beats chasing every deal across town. Add a second stop only when it saves a meaningful amount and is on your way.
